None of armed formations claims responsibility for terror act in Moscow Region

At least 40 people were killed and more than 100 others were injured as a result of the terror act at Crocus City Hall in the Moscow Region, where armed people shot concertgoers. The authorities in at least four regions of Southern Russia announced the cancellation of public events and increased security measures.

On March 22, before the concert of the “Picnic” rock band, several people with submachine guns entered the foyer and opened fire. At least two explosions occurred. The building was engulfed in fire and the roof began to collapse, the RBC reports.

By 11:25 p.m. Moscow time, no armed formations claimed responsibility for what happened. There have also been no statements about the alleged organizers. Earlier, after terror acts of such a scale, the authorities declared the responsibility of armed groupings from Northern Caucasus.

The Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) announced the institution of a criminal case under the article on terror act.

In Southern Russia, the heads of the regions expressed their condolences over the deaths. Messages with condolences were posted in their Telegram channels by Veniamin Kondratyev, Governor of Kuban, Kazbek Kokov, the leader of Kabardino-Balkaria, Rashid Temrezov, the leader of Karachay-Cherkessia, Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of Chechnya, and others.

Several regional heads announced the introduction of increased security measures and the cancellation of public events. All public events have been cancelled in North Ossetia, announces republic’s leader Sergey Menyailo.

“In connection with the terror act in the Moscow Region, all entertainment, sports, and other public events will be cancelled in Dagestan until further notice. In addition, security at transport facilities will be enhanced ... and in crowded places too,” the administration of the Dagestani leader announces in its Telegram channel.
