Resident of Rostov Region convicted of involvement in "USSR"*

The court has sentenced Vladimir Sizov, a resident of the Rostov Region, to 3.5 years in penal colony, recognizing him as a member of an extremist organization.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on November 14, 2023, the Neklinovsky District Court of the Rostov Region received a case of six local residents accused of involvement in the activities of the "USSR"*. One of them, Oleg Kolesov, is considered by investigators to be the leader of the organization.

According to investigators, from August 2019 to April 2021, Sizov took part in the activities of the "Union of Rus' Slavic Forces", the human rights project "OVD-Info"** has reported.

In Russia, several organizations created by those who treat themselves as citizens of the USSR have already been banned, but they do not always contain the abbreviation USSR, Alexander Verkhovsky, a human rights defender, said earlier.

*In 2019, the Supreme Court of the Komi Republic recognized the "Union of Rus' Slavic Forces" (one of the group of movements that also includes "USSR Citizens") as an extremist organization.

**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
