Advocate confirms departure of Chechen Zaurbekova from Russia

Liya Zaurbekova, a native of Chechnya, who escaped from her relatives, has left Russia and is in safety, her advocate has confirmed the information of a member of the Human Rights Council about the woman's departure from Russia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that relatives of the 19-year-old Liya Zaurbekova, who ran away from her family due to constant pressure, put her on the wanted list and found her in Moscow. On May 16, they surrounded the police department where Liya was kept, but the police promised to ensure her safety. Liya herself stated in a video message that she fears reprisals from her relatives. According to the human rights group "Marem", the young woman left the police station with her advocate and went to a safe place.

Zaurbekova's departure from Russia was confirmed by Natalia Tikhonova, her advocate, in her Telegram channel "In Law with Tikhonova".

On May 16, Adam Delimkhanov, a State Duma MP and Ramzan Kadyrov's closest associate, "has expressed confidence that Zaurbekova will be returned to her relatives in the near future." He has added that he was acting on Kadyrov's direct instruction.
