Journalist Vishnevetskaya files cassation complaint against her arrest in Dagestan

The defence of Yulia Vishnevetskaya, a journalist, has pointed out the absence of proofs of her participation in anti-mobilization protests in Makhachkala. Vishnevetskaya's rights to a fair trial were violated, the complaint states.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 26, 2022, Yulia Vishnevetskaya, who was performing her editorial assignment, was detained at an anti-mobilization protest held in Makhachkala. She was arrested for five days. On September 30, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan upheld Vishnevetskaya's arrest.

As reported by the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence*, in the above complaint, the defence has indicated that the case had no proofs that the anti-mobilization action, where Yulia was detained was of a violent nature and violated the public order.

*As reported on the website of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the reason for including on March 1, 2024, the unregistered "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD) into the roster of foreign agents was the spread of "inaccurate information aimed at creating a negative image of the Russian Federation, as well as the Russian Armed Forces."
