Resident of Khasavyurt convicted in case on fakes about Russian Army

In Khasavyurt, after reconsideration of a criminal case, a court sentenced Shakhban Abakargadjiev to five years of forced labour, finding him guilty of spreading fake news about Russian militaries. The “OVD-Info”* human rights project reported about the verdict to Shakhban Abakargadjiev on its website.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 1, the Supreme Court (SC) of Dagestan cancelled the sentence to Shakhban Abakargadjiev and returned the case for a new consideration.

On November 8, 2023, the Khasavyurt City Court found Shakhban Abakargadjiev guilty of spreading fake news about the Russian Army and sentenced him to five years of imprisonment in a penal colony, but replaced the sentence with a more lenient one: three years of correctional labour with a three-year ban on administering Internet websites.

Let us remind you that according to the investigator’s version, Shakhban Abakargadjiev posted comments on a social network about Ukrainian civilians killed in the Kyiv Region. In court, the defendant admitted his guilt and repented, explaining that he posted entries “being in a fit of anger after the body of his perished nephew was brought from Ukraine.”

The “Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial” human rights project recognized Shakhban Abakargadjiev as a political prisoner and demanded his release.
