Court extends arrest of five defendants in Makhachkala unrest case
The arrest of five figurants in the riot case at Makhachkala Airport has been extended until December 30, 2024, the RIA "Novosti" has reported, citing the press service of the courts of the Krasnodar Territory. The court in Armavir, at the request of the prosecution, has postponed the hearing of the case, since one of the defendants was not brought to the Krasnodar Territory.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on February 17, 2024, relatives of the rioters asked President Putin for leniency. They stated that their relatives had fallen victim to provocation and made a mistake.
The Armavir City Court was to start considering the unrest case at the Makhachkala Airport initiated against five defendants: Ataev, Islam Ibragimov, Magomed Omaraskhabov, Rabadan Radjabov and Salik Ramazanov. However, the sitting was rescheduled for July 3, since Ramazanov was not convoyed the Krasnodar SIZO (pre-trial prison).
Now, a total of 134 people are still under arrest in connection with the riots; two others are under house arrest; they assert that they were at the airport, but did not take part in the riots, Shamil Khadulaev, the chairman of the Dagestani Public Oversight Commission (POC), stated on June 13. It is necessary to punish those whose guilt in attacking policemen and damaging airport property has been proven; however, the very presence at the airport should not entail criminal liability, Arsen Magomedov, a lawyer, has pointed out.
