Zarema Musaeva repeatedly refused in CER

The Shali City Court has for the second time dismissed a request for the conditional early relief of Zarema Musaeva. The court justified its refusal by the fact that the woman had not compensated for damages in the case on fraud and was placed on preventive registration in a penal colony.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 28, an advocate reported that Zarema Musaeva’s vision had sharply deteriorated and that the woman began to experience severe pain. The deterioration of Zarema Musaeva’s condition became another basis for the conditional early relief (CER), but the woman is actually being held hostage by the authorities of Chechnya, human rights defenders point out. On May 3, in a complaint lodged with the Chechen Prosecutor, the advocate of Zarema Musaeva claimed that his client had been denied medical treatment during several months.

“We have thoroughly examined Zarema Musaeva’s case. She was put on the preventive registration as prone to attacking law enforcers not because she violated internal regulations of the penal colony, but because she was charged under the article ‘Use of violence against a representative of the authorities.’ We will challenge the court’s decision and lodge an appeal with the Supreme Court (SC) of the Chechen Republic,” stated advocate Alexander Savin as quoted by the “Teams against Torture” (TaT)* Telegram channel.

*The “Team against Torture” (TaT, formerly the “Committee against Torture” – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
