Mufti of Dagestan announces fatwa banning wearing niqabs

The Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM) of Dagestan will soon issue a fatwa (a ruling based on the principles of Islam), banning wearing niqabs. This has been announced by the Mufti of Dagestan after the leader of the republic spoke out against wearing niqabs.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on June 25, two days after the militants’ attacks in Derbent and Makhachkala, Sergey Melikov, the leader of Dagestan, announced that he stood against wearing niqabs. “Personally, I am against wearing niqabs, because this clothing, unusual for the Caucasian peoples, let men be hidden under it and let women carry prohibited items. From the point of view of terrorist security, I am also against wearing niqabs,” Sergey Melikov stated.

The Muftiate of Dagestan will soon issue a fatwa (a ruling based on the principles of Islam), banning wearing niqabs, Mufti of Dagestan Akhmad-Afandi Abdulaev has announced.

Let us remind you that on May 28, Russian State Duma Deputy Speaker Vladislav Davankov proposed giving legislative and municipal assemblies the power to impose a ban on wearing religious clothing in public places.
