Dagestani MIA head names number of figurants in unrest case in Makhachkala

A total of 140 people are in custody under the criminal cases related to the unrests at the Makhachkala Airport; 1200 people have been brought to administrative responsibility, Abdurashid Magomedov, the head of the Dagestani Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), has informed.

“After the events at the airport, 140 people, young people, are in jails <…> all are there legally <…>. Other 1200 people have been brought to administrative responsibility,” the TASS quotes the Minister as saying.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that 134 people are under arrest in connection with the riots at the Makhachkala Airport, two more are under house arrest, they claim that they were at the airport, but did not take part in the riots, Shamil Khadulaev, the chairman of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan, said on June 13. It’s necessary to punish those whose guilt in attacking policemen and damaging the airport’s property has been proven, while staying at the airport shouldn’t lead to criminal liability, Arsen Magomedov, a lawyer, has emphasized.

Let us recall that on February 17, 2024, relatives of rioters at the Makhachkala Airport asked President Putin for leniency. They claimed that their relatives had fallen victim to provocation and made a mistake.
