Believer from Kuban accused of extremism

A resident of the Pavlovsky District studied banned extremist books and tried to recruit new members into the ranks of Jehovah’s Witnesses*, investigators suggest.

According to the investigators’ version, from July to October 2019, the suspect conducted classes on the study of prohibited extremist books, combined with preaching activities. The suspect was spreading the religious beliefs of Jehovah’s Witnesses* and recruiting new members into the organization.

The criminal prosecution of Jehovah’s Witnesses* from the Pavlovsky District has earlier been repeatedly reported. In particular, in April 2023, a criminal case was instituted against Jehovah’s Witness* from the village of Pavlovskaya. According to the investigators’ version, the suspect participated in online meetings of believers.

On March 27, 2023, in Krasnodar, the court of cassation upheld the sentence of Jehovah’s Witness* Lyudmila Schekoldina from the village of Pavlovskaya in the case on the extremist organization.

*396 Russian organizations of Jehovah’s Witnesses are recognized as extremist, and their activities in Russia are banned by court’s decision.
