Court extends arrest of journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova
The arrest of Nadezhda Kevorkova, a journalist, accused of justifying terrorism, has been extended by two months.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on May 7, 2024, the Basmanny Court of Moscow ruled to arrest Nadezhda Kevorkova, 65, accused of justifying terrorism. The hearing at which the complaint against the arrest was planned to be considered was cancelled.
The Basmanny Court judge has neglected the arguments of Kaloi Akhilgov, Nadezhda's advocate, as well as suretyships lodged by a number of famous people, and the petition for transfer her to house arrest. The journalist was left in custody until October 6.
Let us remind you that Kevorkova is accused of justifying terrorism for reposting a 2010 text by journalist, Orkhan Djemal, about the attack on Nalchik and a publication about the Taliban movement* in her Telegram channel. In his article, Djemal talked about authorities' blunders that led to Muslims' discontent.
*By the Russian Supreme Court the movement has been recognized to be a terrorist organization and banned in Russia.
