Chechen resident detained for beating his wife
Policemen have detained a Chechen resident for beating his wife after a video of the incident caused public resonance.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that a video of a woman being beaten in a store was posted on August 1. The beating of a woman by her husband requires an inquiry, human rights defenders have stated. Telegram users have condemned the behaviour of the Chechen man.
According to the "Marem" human rights group, the incident took place in the town of Oyskhara. The man demanded that the woman leave the store and threatened her, and the woman refused while he was "in such a state."
The man who had brutally beaten up his wife has been detained by law enforcers, Mansur Soltaev, the Chechen Ombudsperson, told the "Chechnya Today" News Agency.
"As I was informed, the perpetrator faces severe punishment for such behaviour with beatings," he said.
In the republic, the incident "has triggered an extremely negative reaction, since the perpetrator had neglected elementary social norms," Mansur Soltaev has added.
The article "Beating" provides for up to two years of freedom deprivation.
