Chechen Muftiate's call to commercial madrasahs surprises Telegram users

The Muftiate of Chechnya has called on the heads of commercial madrasahs to provide training free of charge and explained this recommendation by numerous complaints. In their turn, Telegram users have objected that a refusal to take money for their services will deprive madrasahs of an income source.

"It's worth noting that there are 413 madrasahs in Chechnya, of which 131 are commercial, and 282 provide training free of charge," the republic's Spiritual Administration of Muslims (SAM or Muftiate) has reported on its Telegram channel.

Many commentators expressed bewilderment at the Muftiate's statement.

"This means that the deficit of madrasahs in the republic needs to be compensated for somehow. People who wanted to learn reading the Koran may be left without this knowledge at all," the user S. N has expressed his opinion.

"Nobody is forcibly dragging anyone to these private madrasahs to complain that they take money. Those who don't want or cannot pay go to madrasahs at mosques. This is not a reason to close them," the user Fatima wrote.

"Who wants to go to a free madrasah, and who wants to go to a paid one, what's the problem?" the user Shack is surprised.

"Who will pay for the work of madrasah teachers if education is made free?" the user Bleen Ladna has asked.
