Activist Ruslan Nurushev fined for insulting Russian President

In Volgograd, a court fined activist Ruslan Nurushev 50,000 roubles, finding him guilty of insulting the authorities.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on August 2, it became known that in Volgograd, a court refused to consider a claim filed against disclosure of the data of the activists, one of whom was lawyer Ruslan Nurushev. Earlier, the “Volgograd-1” TV Company released a report about people laying flowers to the monument to the victims of political repression in memory of Alexei Navalny. The court explained the decision by stating that the plaintiff chose an “inappropriate defendant.”

On June 12, the police searched Ruslan Nurushev and seized his laptop and other office equipment. Earlier, the activist had posted an entry on his page on the “VKontakte” social network in which he expressed an insult addressed to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Let us remind you that on March 20, the Volgograd TV Channel made public the names of the people who brought flowers to the monument to the victims of political repression in memory of Alexei Navalny, calling them potential “saboteurs.” Reporters claimed that they had conducted a “journalistic investigation” about the city residents who brought flowers to the monument to the victims of political repression. Several activists who were shown in the TV Channel’s report, including Roman Melnichenko, Ruslan Nurushev, and Vladimir Telpuk, filed a complaint to the prosecutor’s office with a request to institute a criminal case.
