Sochi resident Alexei Schus left under arrest

The Court of Appeal has refused to soften the freedom restriction measure for Alexei Schus, a Sochi engineer, accused of spreading fake news about the Russian Army and illegally making weapons.

Earlier, this April, Alexei Schus became a defendant in a criminal case about fake news about the Russian Army due to reposts in a social network made more than two years ago. On August 16, investigators toughened the charges. Schus, who was under recognizance not to leave the place, was taken into custody.

The Court of Appeal has upheld the arrest of Alexei Schus, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* reported, citing Maria Spasibukhova, an advocate. The Alexei's indictment was approved in the case of three reposts about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Initially, he was accused of spreading fake news about the Russian Army, but later the charges were toughened by adding a hate motive. The engineer is also accused of illegally making weapons.
