Journalists remind authorities about absence of inquiry results into Beslan terror act

After 20 years, the authorities have still failed to give a specific answer to how terrorists managed to organize the school capture in Beslan in 2004, where more than three hundred people perished, journalists have stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 1, mourning events were held in North Ossetia dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the school capture in Beslan. At School No. 1, the mourning ceremony began with the ringing of the school bell; and its participants honoured the memory of the victims of the terror act.

Only 14 years after the tragedy, in December 2018, Alexander Matovnikov, the presidential envoy to the North-Caucasian Federal District (NCFD) made the first official admission since the terror act that the school assault had been planned from the very beginning, despite local residents' protests.

It is important to convey the truth about the school capture in Beslan and about the inquiry into this case not only to residents of North Ossetia and Russia as a whole, but also to foreign audiences, Ruslan Totrov, a journalist, has noted in his Telegram channel "Freedom Square".

David Djioev, a blogger, has noted that after 20 years since the tragedy in Beslan, the society has more and more questions. "Only the guilt of the society is becoming more and more obvious, the guilt of all of us for not protecting children," he wrote in the public "Ossetia and Ossetians" in the Facebook.

"The trauma grows as you are older, it becomes deeper," Agunda Vataeva, the editor-in-chief of the Telegram channels "Sapa Media", has noted in the "Vedomosti" outlet. As a ninth-grader, she ended up in that very school during the assault.

On the eve of the 20th anniversary of the terror act in Beslan, Robin Fabbro, the editor-in-chief of the "OC Media" portal, has made a video podcast in English, in which Zalina Bogazova, a former pupil of School No. 1 in Beslan, took part.

"20 years after the terror act, residents of North Ossetia continue waiting for the results of the inquiry into authorities' actions in the crisis situation. Some of them believe that there were more victims due to law enforcers' blunders," the description of the video says.
