Attack with bladed weapon on law enforcers is the first in Northern Caucasus in two years
The attack on the traffic police post at the entrance to Magas, as a result of which policemen killed a man armed with a screwdriver, was preceded by a similar incident that occurred in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, in November 2022. In Ingushetia, this attack was the second armed incident since the start of the year after the counterterrorist operation (CTO) held in Karabulak and the first attack with the use of a bladed weapon in more than four years.
On September 3, a man with a screwdriver attacked traffic police inspectors at the entrance to Magas, the capital of Ingushetia. One inspector was wounded; the attacker was shot dead, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has informed.
According to the "Caucasian Knot", based on its own materials and information from open sources, the attack on a law enforcer in Northern Caucasus with the use of a bladed weapon was the first in more than 21 months. The previous similar incident occurred in Grozny on July 9, 2021.
Also, on November 21, 2022, in Grozny, an unknown man attacked a traffic policeman with a knife and tried to escape with the policeman's pistol. The policeman died, the attacker was killed.
In 2019, five attacks with knives on law enforcers were committed in Northern Caucasus. More than four years have passed since the last knife attack in Ingushetia. Then, on December 31, 2019, at the entrance to Magas, two men hit a traffic policeman with a car, and then attacked the crew with knives. One of the attackers, Mikail Miziev, was killed, and the other, master of sports in arm wrestling Akhmed Imagozhev, was wounded. One of the policemen perished, and three others were wounded.
The culture of using cold arms was formed in Northern Caucasus long before the emergence of terrorism: it has long been perceived there as a family heirloom, Kamil Khaidakov, a collector and expert on cold arms of the East, has explained.
