Four persons killed in explosion at petrol station in Makhachkala

An explosion occurred at a petrol station located on a road in the Karabudakhkent District, the Makhachkala City Mayoralty reported. Four persons were killed in the explosion, the Dagestani Minister for Public Health announced.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that after the explosion which occurred near a petrol station in Makhachkala on August 14, 2023, the General Prosecutor’s Office announced an inspection aimed to prove the legality of the placement of petrol stations in Dagestan. As a result of the violations found, 150 petrol stations were closed, two criminal cases were instituted, the General Prosecutor’s Office reported after large-scale inspections.

The explosion on the road in the Karabudakhkent District damaged cars parked near the petrol station. At the moment, emergency services are trying to determine the number of victims.

Numerous incidents at petrol stations in Dagestan, including those with fatalities, were attributed to violations in the operation of petrol stations. One of the incidents which caused a wide public outcry occurred in August 2023. Then, an explosion occurred at a car service in Makhachkala, after which a petrol station located nearby caught fire. As a result, 37 people were killed. The authorities of Dagestan promised to solve the problem with the safety of petrol stations, but the problem still remain urgent.
