Problems of peace-making journalism discussed in Nagorno-Karabakh

Under the Project "Journalism and Peacemaking," implemented with support of the International Alert organization, at the editorial board of the Shushi newspaper "Shushi" a discussion was held on the topic "Does the peacemaking journalism exists and how much Karabakh media needs it?"

Journalists, employees of mass media and representatives of the city's administration took part in the meeting.

Journalist Karine Oganyan who held the meeting has noted that, as a rule, same journalists are taking part in Armenian-Azerbaijan journalists' meetings, but it is necessary to involve a broader range of representatives of Karabakh mass media into joint projects with the Azerbaijani party.

As a whole, the participants of the meeting have positively apprehended the idea. At the same time, they noted the non-readiness of the greater part of the present Azerbaijani society to maintain a meaningful dialogue with the Karabakh party.

The opinion also was expressed on the "aggressiveness" of the Azerbaijani journalists, in particular of the young ones.

In the opinion of the majority of the participants of the meeting, the dialogue will allow softening the tension between the parties; in this connection the necessity was expressed to continue the dialogue with Azerbaijani colleagues.
