Native of Chechnya accused of organizing an assassination attempt on Alikhadjiev
A native of Chechnya, Bashir Omarkhodjaev, has been charged with organizing an assassination attempt on Sherip Alikhadjiev, a former Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia, and Vasily Konovalov, a citizen of Ukraine, has been accused of attempting to murder Alikhadjiev.
On October 22, law enforcers reported the detention of the alleged customer and executor of the assassination attempt on Sherip Alikhadjiev.
According to investigators, in September, the person who ordered the murder contacted an acquaintance with whom he had served his term in prison and promised 20 million roubles for the murder of Alikhadjiev, having given him an advance payment of 500,000 roubles, a pistol and information about the victim. The hired killer watched Alikhadjiev for a month, the investigators assert. On October 10, Alikhadjiev was shot at on the veranda of his home in Odintsovo near Moscow; two bullets hit him. Alikhadjiev was hospitalized.
According to the "Kommersant", during interrogation, Konovalov said that Bashir Omarkhodjaev, an entrepreneur, had ordered him to murder Alikhadjiev, with whom he "had some disagreement," when Alikhadjiev was Deputy Prime Minister of Ingushetia.
Omarkhodjaev denies any involvement in the assassination attempt.
Sherip Alikhadjiev held the post of Deputy Chairman of the Government of Ingushetia, to which he was appointed in April 2007. In 2007, Ramzan Kadyrov declared him a "criminal." "He is involved in our criminal case, but at the same time he is Ingush Vice-Premier," the "Grozny-Inform" quoted Ramzan Kadyrov as saying.
