Dagestani activists complain about attempt to disrupt roundtable in defence of Rabadanov

Law enforcers attempted to detain activist Denga Khalidov, who organized a roundtable in defence of blogger Ramazan Rabadanov, who was detained in Dagestan. Activists accepted an appeal to the law enforcement bodies, despite the fact that they had to change twice the location of their meeting.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that residents of Dagestan expressed their indignation by the detention of activist Ramazan Rabadanov, who spoke in defence of the defendants in the case on riots at the Makhachkala airport. A Ramazan Rabadanov’s son, who stays in the special military operation (SMO) zone, recorded an appeal to President Putin asking him to take control over the situation. Ramazan Rabadanov has been arrested for two months.

Ramazan Rabadanov was going to leave for the Stavropol and Krasnodar Territories to attend trials in the “airport case.” The activist claimed that someone approached him and planted a grenade to his jacket’s pocket.

Today, the police have attempted to detain public figure Dengi Khalidov when he was heading to a roundtable where it was planned to adopt an appeal in defence of arrested blogger and activist Ramazan Rabadanov. That has been reported by Shamil Khadulaev, the head of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of Dagestan, on his Telegram channel.

The appeal in defence of Ramazan Rabadanov was nevertheless adopted, it was signed by more than twenty organizations. The activists demanded to carry out an unbiased investigation into the circumstances of the detention of Ramazan Rabadanov, release him, and bring to responsibility the law enforcers involved in the detention and arrest of the activist. “Such a decision will restore the Dagestani society’s trust in the authorities, which has been seriously undermined in recent years because of flagrant violations of the rights and freedoms of Russian citizens,” the appeal states.

Ramazan Rabadanov has recently been known for his human rights initiatives. In particular, the activist was involved in organizing legal and informational assistance to defendants in the “airport case.” Ramazan Rabadanov helped organize fundraisings to pay for advocates’ services and also intended to attend and cover the trials himself, the Dagestani weekly newspaper “Chernovik” (Rough Draft) reported.
