Chechen Ombudsperson asks for state protection for Murdiev's relatives

Mansur Soltaev, the Chechen Ombudsperson, has petitioned the court for state protection for the family of Roman Murdiev, because they are receiving many threats.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 6, the Ombudsperson Mansur Soltaev had criticized the investigators' version of the case of Roman (also referred to as Muslim) Murdiev.

The 14-year-old Roman Murdiev was charged within the case of gross violation of public order and use of violence; he has been under house arrest in Moscow for more than six months. The reason for the criminal case was a brawl, in which the teenager, according to his version, stood up for a boy he knew.

"People, without hiding their faces, in social networks, are threatening the boy and his family," the "Grozny-Inform" News Agency quotes Mansur Soltaev as saying.

According to the Ombudsperson, he and Murdiev's defence team are demanding that "all commentators who leave negative messages" about the teenager be held accountable.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, declared the heads of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), Vladimir Kolokoltsev and Alexander Bastrykin, to be unfit for their posts. "The Murdiev case shows that the people who sit at the top, such as Bastrykin and Kolokoltsev, are not in their places," Kadyrov has stated. Human rights defenders have treated Kadyrov's criticism of the heads of the above law enforcement bodies as a test of his influence.

  • Compensation decrease for illegal prosecution violates rights of KBR resident

The court ruling, which awarded Madin Gubzhokov compensation of 30,000 roubles for unlawful criminal prosecution, is incomparable with the moral harm caused by the actions of Azamat Kyaov, a former law enforcer. The amount is ridiculous and should be appealed against, lawyers and human rights defenders have stated.
