In Tbilisi, march participants demand to release Mziya Amaglobeli

On the 50th day of protests against the suspension of Georgia’s European integration, activists demanded to provide them with airtime on the “Georgian Public Broadcaster” Radio and TV Company to talk about the circumstances of the detention and arrest of Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of the “Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti” online publications.

On January 14, in Georgia, TV Companies and a number of online publications stopped working for several hours in protest against the arrest of Mziya Amaglobeli. On January 15, some Georgian enterprises stopped working for three hours, and employees took to the streets with the demand to hold new parliamentary elections and release all those detained during the protest actions. In Tbilisi, a group of people, including the City Mayoralty’s employees, attacked the protesters.

Journalists and ordinary citizens gathered in front of the building of the “Georgian Public Broadcaster” Radio and TV Company to express their support for Mziya Amaglobeli. The activists demanded to report about the unlawful treatment Mziya Amaglobeli had suffered. The protesters tried to contact the administration of the Radio and TV Company, but they were promised that the administration would contact them tomorrow to discuss the possibility of providing airtime, the “Netgazeti” online publication reported.
