Chechen advocate lIdalov demands to punish judge for unjust verdict

Timur Idalov, an advocate from Chechnya, has been released from forced labour, since the order to enforce his sentence was revoked. The statute of limitations for the case has already expired. Idalov asked the Supreme Court (SC) to hold the judge who had sentenced him accountable.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on January 16, the secretary of the Khimki City Court informed Idalov that the order to cancel the entry into force of the sentence was expected in the near future. On the same day, an appeal against Idalov’s sentence was filed with this court. He complained about the court's violations in his case and law enforcers’ actions to the Russian General Prosecutor's Office (GPO), the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF), the Supreme Court (SC) and President Putin.

On November 28, 2024, the court sentenced Idalov to one year and 11 months of forced labour and banned him from practicing law for three years, finding him guilty of threatening the prosecutor. The court unreasonably left him in custody pending appeal, although it was obliged to immediately release him. On December 27, Idalov was released and stated violations in his case.

Earlier, Idalov repeatedly stated that he was illegally kept in custody, despite the fact that the court had sentenced him to a non-custodial punishment.

Idalov had long sought a fair recalculation of his sentence, arguing that the time he had actually spent in custody and the restriction measures should be included into his overall term.

Idalov has reported that the statute of limitations for criminal liability expired on January 17. In his opinion, this makes any further measures against him illegal.

His advocate intends to seek criminal liability for the officials and judges involved in his illegal freedom deprivation. According to his version, after the sentencing, which was not related to imprisonment, he was illegally held in custody for a month.
