Dagestani native Magomed Magomedov achieves public outcry around his case on torture at police

Magomed Magomedov, a native of Dagestan, who complained about torture at a police station, has been visited in a temporary detention facility (IVS) in Moscow by officials from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the prosecutor’s office. Human rights defenders have also visited the defendant in the IVS.

On January 25, Magomed Magomedov complained to investigators that he was tortured after being detained on suspicion of modernizing firearms.

Members of the Public Oversight Commission (POC) of the Moscow Region visited Magomed Magomedov in the IVS.

Magomed Magomedov did not complain about torture until arrival at the IVS. Now he is in a depressed state, but feels satisfactory.

According to the Magomed Magomedov’s complaint, he was tortured by three law enforcers, whom he is able to identify. The man claimed that the law enforcers were filming the torture on a mobile phone camera and threatening him that the same could happen to his relatives. The law enforcers also threatened that in case if he complained about what happened, they would burn down the houses of his parents and brother.

Advocates noted that only after the story became public did the law enforcement bodies begin to consider the Magomed Magomedov’s complaints about torture.
