Beaten disabled Manchenko’s mother hopes for fair sentence for policemen

The acquittal of law enforcers who beat Krasnodar resident Yevgeny Manchenko has been cancelled, and the court’s decision has encouraged the victim’s family and human rights defenders. The man has not recovered six years after his leg injury.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on July 21, 2023, the Krasnodar Territorial Court acquitted former policemen Vladimir Tatarkov and Vyacheslav Zyabkin in the case on beating Yevgeny Manchenko. In January 2025, the Cassation Court in Krasnodar returned for the fourth time the case to the Krasnodar Territorial Court for consideration.

In March 2019, Yevgeny Manchenko tried to climb over the fence into the yard of his house, as he had lost his keys. At that moment, the policemen ran up to him, began to pull him off the fence, and hit him on the leg with a baton. Later, they continued to beat the man on the ground.

Snezhana, a mother of Yevgeny Manchenko, claimed that the consequences of the injuries got by her son still affect his condition.

“My son feels pain in his leg ... If before the beating, he could easily squat, now he can’t sit down or squat. His leg has lost this function forever ... We had to endure a lot in connection with the Yevgeny’s medical treatment, but the policemen did not even apologize to him and us, his parents. If they had done so, we would have forgiven them. Yevgeny is a good guy,” the woman stated.

The mother of Yevgeny Manchenko claims that her son also got severe psychological trauma. “He is now afraid to go outside and stay home alone ... The policemen do not repent, and when they come to court hearings, they behave disgustingly. The policemen try to convince everyone that they are right in everything,” the woman explained.
