Khidriev brothers suspected of blowing up the "Neva-Express" train face no charges

The suspected of undermining the "Neva-Express" train Maksharip Abdul-Karimovich and Amirkhan Abdul-Karimovich Khidriev have faced no charges yet.

Ayup Khidriev, brother of the detainees, has informed the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent that the court had appointed the freedom restriction measure to the brothers in the form of a 30-day arrest. The Khidrievs are kept in the building of the pre-trial isolation facility of the GOVD (City Police Unit) of Veliki Novgorod. Since October 31, nobody is let to meet them.

When Murad Yunusov, Maksharip Khidriev's advocate, was not admitted to see his client, he was shown a letter of inspector Ushapovskiy, which ran: "No external persons, including the participants of the criminal trial, shall be let in without my permit." Mr Yunusov asserts that this is a breach of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation.

According to a well-informed source in Veliki Novgorod, it has become known that the Khidrievs are exposed to tortures and beatings with the aim to force them to plead guilty of undermining the "Neva-Express" train. The same source has added that the Khidriev brothers are beaten and exposed to such tortures, the traces of which cannot be revealed at physical examination (they beat those parts of the body where no traces are left and apply electric current). The Khidriev brothers are absolutely isolated and have no access to advocates, public prosecutor, relatives, or doctor.

  • Lawyers doubt prospect of bills banning religious clothes

The bills that intend to ban wearing religious clothing, including niqabs, in public places are causing a split in the society, which is especially negative amid the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. Religious clothes are not widespread in the country, this issue is not relevant, therefore the bills to ban them will not be adopted, lawyers believe.
