In Georgia, protesters honour memory of those killed in battles with Red Army
In Tbilisi, participants in six protest marches honoured the memory of those killed in battles with the Red Army. After that,they went to the Georgian parliament building, where for the 90thday in a row, protests have been held with the demand to hold new parliamentary elections and release activists.
Since 2010, the day of February 25 has been marked in Georgia as the Day of Soviet Occupation. On this day, state flags are lowered, and country’s residents pay tribute to the cadets who perished in 1921 in battles with the Red Army on the outskirts of Tbilisi.
The protest marches in Tbilisi were dedicated to the Day of Soviet Occupation. The marches were named after heroes associated with the history of the Georgia’s struggle for independence and resistance to the Soviet occupation, the “News-Georgia” news agency reported.
On the 90th day of continuous protests against the policy of the “Georgian Dream” Party demanding to organize new parliamentary elections and to release all detained activists, the protest actions took place in Tbilisi and Batumi. A charity exhibition of paintings is taking place in front of the parliament. All proceeds from the sale will be donated to the Tbilisi Human Rights House, which helps those detained at the protest actions.
Salome Zurabishvili, the fifth president of Georgia, has joined the protest action in Tbilisi, the “Tbilisi Life” Telegram channel reports.
The protest actions in Georgia have been going on daily for over two months. On February 19, it became known that protesters were being subjected to quite high fines, which could significantly reduce the number of active demonstrators.
