Amid decrease in his public activeness, Kadyrov takes many vacations

Ramzan Kadyrov has gone on vacation for the second time since the start of the year. Less than two weeks passed from his public appearance after the first vacation to the announcement of the second one.

The head of the republic has explained his next vacation by the month of Ramadan. "I’ll spend the month of Ramadan on vacation. I’ll dedicate it to worshiping the Almighty," he has stated as quoted by the “Chechnya Today” News Agency on March 1. It was on this day that the holy month of Ramadan began for Muslims.

"Back in 2022, after the start of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, the Chechen leader stated that militaries and officials had no right to go on vacation until the end of the SMO. But he himself constantly ignores this demand," the "Caucasian Knot" commentator has noted.

However, in January 2025, the Chechen leader has significantly reduced his public activeness. He appeared in public on February 17 and confirmed that he had been on vacation. "There is no illness that has not been attributed to me ... European and American newspapers wrote that ‘he hasn’t been seen anywhere for 18 days; that's the end’," the “Grozny-Inform” has quoted him as saying.

After February 17, in his Telegram channel, Kadyrov himself has reported about several meetings with ministers of the Chechen Govt; and on March 1, a message about his new vacation followed.

Scandals before vacation

Let us note here that before Kadyrov's unexpected departure on vacation in January, he came into conflict with the heads of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) and the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA). The reason was in the criminal prosecution of a teenager from Chechnya, accused of beating people up in Moscow streets. On December 4, 2024, Kadyrov declared Alexander Bastrykin and Vladimir Kolokoltsev professionally unfit.

Shortly before his vacation, Kadyrov also attracted attention by offering to provide help to the victims of the December 25, 2024, plane crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft that flew from Baku to Grozny, as well as to victims’ relatives. Baku categorically rejected the help, stating that only compensation could be the point.

Kadyrov declared mourning in Chechnya for two days after the plane crash.
