Abkhazian CEC sums up presidential election totals

The Abkhazian Central Election Commission (CEC) has announced the election results, according to which Badra Gunba was elected president.

According to preliminary data, the Acting President, Badra Gunba, has won 54.73% of the votes, while Adgur Ardzinba, the leader of the oppositional "Abkhaz People's Movement" and a former Minister of Economy has received 41.54% of the votes. The violations recorded in the second round will not affect the election outcome, the CEC has stated.

On February 15, 2025, five candidates took part in the first round of election. None of them received enough votes to win.

On March 1, the campaign offices of both candidates who took part in the second round reported numerous violations and demanded that the CEC conduct inquiries. Ardzinba's office claimed manipulations with ballots and voters’ documents at polling stations, while Gunba's one accused Ardzinba's supporters of trying to disrupt the voting.

The decision to hold early election was made after mass protests forced President Aslan Bzhaniya to resign in November 2024.
