Defence denied of investigation into torture of Dagestani native Magomedov

Investigators refused to institute a criminal case against law enforcers for the torture of Dagestani native Magomed Magomedov.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that Magomed Magomedov, who lives in Moscow, was detained on suspicion of modernizing firearms. The man claimed that three law enforcers tortured him using a stun gun and a mop.

Magomed Magomedov filed a complaint stating that the law enforcers put a rubber glove on a mop and inserted it into his anus. The Department for the Moscow Region of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported that the investigation did not confirm the information about any illegal actions “against the sexual integrity” of the detainee and that the investigation into the complaint about the use of a stun gun is ongoing.

Investigators refused to institute a criminal case about the torture of Magomed Magomedov, advocate Sergey Uzdensky reported on his Telegram channel.

“This document will go down in history as an example of the Russian Investigating Committee’s unconditional trust in the words of MIA’s officials without any real verification of their arguments,” the advocate wrote.

Let us remind you that on January 27, a court placed Magomed Magomedov under arrest. Public prosecutors state that he is a relative of supporters of the banned terrorist organization “Islamic State”* who are wanted and live in Syria. At the trial, the law enforcers did not provide any arguments in favour of the version of the Magomed Magomedov’s connections with the terrorist organization.

The investigators’ version is unfounded, and some of the documents in the case are falsified, advocates have pointed out. The defenders have also noted that even under torture, Magomed Magomedov did not voice a confession to the crime he was accused of.

*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation recognized the organization “Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
