Activist complains about pressure after detention in Krasnodar
In Krasnodar, law enforcers have released Mikhail Matyazh, who demanded, at his solo picket, that those responsible for the environmental disaster in Kuban (Krasnodar Territory) be punished. The activist has reported that he was subjected to pressure after his detention.
On March 14, Mikhail Matyazh, an activist and volunteer, held a solo picket near the building of the Krasnodar Territorial Administration. He spread leaflets to passersby about the fuel oil spill in Anapa, in which he demanded to punish those responsible for the tanker crash, not the ship captains, and that environmental standards be strengthened.
Mikhail was detained and spent more than 16 hours at the police station, his associates reported in the "Another Kuban" Telegram channel. "The reason for his detention was in the respirator that Matyazh was wearing during his picket. Allegedly, he intentionally hid his face with this," the post says.
A part of the article "Violation of the procedure for holding a picket" provides for a fine of 10,000 to 20,000 roubles or mandatory work for up to 40 hours.
Matyazh said that after his detention, people in civilian clothes used physical force against him to force him to unblock his phone. After that, law enforcers got access to his mobile phone.
Let us recall that on December 15, 2024, two tankers with fuel oil sank in the Kerch Strait. As a result, a crew member of one of the tankers died. Besides, an oil spill occurred, which led to catastrophic environmental consequences.
