Ingush activist Ismail Nalgiev back at large
Ismail Nalgiev, an Ingush activist, has served his full sentence within the case of an extremist community and was released from a colony located in the Stavropol Territory.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in February 2024, Ismail Nalgiev, Bagaudin Khautiev and Barakh Chemurziev, who had already served most of their eight-year sentences, asked the court to replace the remaining part of their terms for a punishment not related to imprisonment. Then, the court refused to grant their petitions. This year, on February 4, Khautiev was released, and on February 18, Chemurziev was.
Musa Malsagov and the elders, Akhmed Barakhoev and Malsag Uzhakhov, remain behind bars, the "For Human Rights" Project* has reported in its Telegram channel.
Let us remind you that the convicted Ingush activists are prohibited from engaging in public activities and holding certain positions for three years after liberation.
Since January 13, 2023, the Stavropol Territorial Court has been considering appeal complaints against the verdicts passed to seven Magas protest leaders. The activists and their advocates kept pointing out that the court had disregarded many facts indicating the defendants’ innocence. However, in July of the same year, the above court upheld the sentences.
