Rights defenders explain decision to arrest Musaeva
By May 1 this year, the court must issue a decision on a new freedom restriction measure for Zarema Musaeva in the case of disrupting the work of the colony. If they fail to decide by this date, it will be considered that no measure has been chosen for Musaeva.
The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on March 21, 2025, Zarema Musaeva refused to admit guilt at the first hearing of the above case. The Shali District Court has extended her arrest by six months. At the hearing on April 3, Musaeva explained her causing physical harm to a colony employee as a pre-planned fabrication and revenge. On April 11, the Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya partially satisfied the defence's complaint by cancelling the decision to extend the arrest by six months, but extended it until May 1.
"The court has ruled specifically on the partial satisfaction of the defence's complaint, and not the prosecutor's submission ... This opinion on the need for cancellation was the prosecutor's opinion. The prosecutor's representative reacted to the defence's complaint, in the latter’s opinion, according to the letter of the law, agreeing with the arguments," the “Team against Torture” (TaT)* has stated.
In March, the TaT* Fund began fundraising to buy medicines for Musaeva; by April 4, two-thirds of the required amount was raised; and some medicines had already been given to Zarema.
*The "Team against Torture" (TaT, formerly the "Committee against Torture" – CaT) was created by the lawyers who had earlier worked for the CaT, which was included into the register of the NCOs performing the functions of foreign agents.
