Georgian activist tells of beating

Lekso Samkharadze, an activist, and Levan Kanchaveli, his comrade, have been attacked in Tbilisi. Both were hospitalized with serious traumas.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that since November 28, 2024, participants in pro-European protests have been blocking Rustaveli Avenue near the Georgian Parliament every day, demanding new elections and the release of political prisoners. During this time, more than a thousand of them were subjected to administrative prosecution. A total of 64 persons have been charged under criminal articles.

Lekso Samkharadze said that on April 15 he was hit on the head with some "sharp object" and also punched. Besides, he reported stab wounds. His comrade Levan Kanchaveli had his skull fractured; he needed a surgery, The "Interpressnews" reports.

Lekso has noted that he had earlier been repeatedly attacked and had never suffered such injuries. He has expressed confidence that he would soon recover and celebrate the flight of ruling politicians to Russia "together with other regime prisoners."

In 2024, Samkharadze was fined for insulting Victor Djaparidze, an MP, who had supported the law on foreign agents.
