In Quarter 1 of 2025, eight people perished and two were wounded in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus
In the period from January 1 to April 30, 2025, at least 10 people suffered during the on going armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. Eight were killed and two others were wounded. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from open sources.
On April 7, 2025, in the city of Achkhoi-Martan, a 17-year-old young man attacked inspectors of the road-and-patrol (DPS) traffic police unit with a knife. The Chechen branch of the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) reported that the knife attack was committed by a "local resident", he was killed by "return fire"; at least two inspectors were wounded. Later, one of them died in hospital. The body of the 17-year-old teenager was put on display at the Achkhoi-Martan administration.
On April 14, 2024, Mustafa Katsiev, a son of Magomed-Bashir Katsiev, a former head of the village administration, was killed in the village of Ekazhevo. From the video record of the conflict, it follows that an unknown man hit Mustafa Katsiev several times, and when the latter took out his weapon, two men shot him dead.
On April 23, a shootout occurred in the city of Derbent, during which a 21-year-old young man was killed and a policeman was wounded. The Dagestani branch of the ICRF announced that the murdered man had been plotting, together with other residents of the republic, a terror act against a MIA division; four of them were later detained.
At night on March 5, four militants were killed during a counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted in the Makhachkala settlement of Semender, the Russian National Antiterrorist Committee (NAC) reported. According to the operative headquarters of Dagestan, during the check of the information about the possible preparation of a terror act, unknown persons rendered armed resistance. According to the NAC, the group's activities were coordinated by the “Islamic State” (IS)*.
No victims were recorded in Northern Caucasus in January and February of 2025.
Earlier, in Quarter 4 of 2024, four people perished and one was wounded. A year ago, in Quarter 1 Quarter 1 of 2024, nine people were killed and one was wounded.
