Azerbaijani journalist Ulviya Ali detained in “Meydan TV” case
Tonight, journalist Ulviya Ali (Guseinova) has been detained in Azerbaijan. Ulviya Ali became the 11th journalist detained in the “Meydan TV” case.
The news about the detention of Ulviya Ali (Guseinova) has been reported on the “Meydan TV” website this morning.
On her social media pages, activist Gulnara Mekhtieva reported that a search had been conducted in the journalist’s house. “The entire apartment looks like after a pogrom. The piano, drawers, and shelves were broken. We still don’t know what they took out of the house and what they ‘found’,” activist Gulnara Mekhtieva noted.
According to her report, Ulviya Ali was subjected to violence during her detention.
A post about the detention also appeared on the journalist’s personal page in Facebook*.
“If you are reading this article, it means that I have been slandered and illegally arrested for my journalistic activities. I must note that, like my other journalist colleagues, I have not committed any crimes. I have not brought into the country what they call “illegal finances,” or committed any other illegal acts,” the journalist wrote. “I also do not have any working ties with the ‘Meydan TV’. Even if I had such ties, cooperation with the ‘Meydan TV’ is not a crime. I must also note that I have been cooperating with the ‘Voice of America’ for a long time.”
In January, journalist Ulviya Ali was questioned as a witness in the “Meydan TV” case, after which she was banned from leaving Azerbaijan.
