Chechen SC leaves Zarema Musaeva in custody

The Supreme Court (SC) of Chechnya has refused to satisfy the complaint lodged by Zarema Musaeva's defence and release her from the SIZO (pre-trial prison) for the investigation period.

The Chechen SC has refused to satisfy the defence's motion asking to change Musaeva's freedom restriction measure to the one not related to custody. "The woman will remain at the SIZO until the end of August 2025," says a post placed in the Telegram channel of the "Team against Torture" (TaT)*.

Alexander Savin, an advocate, asked the court to release Musaeva from the SIZO for the duration of the investigation so that she could undergo medical examination and receive the necessary treatment, since she has been diagnosed with insulin-dependent type two diabetes. "The defence once again drew the court's attention to the fact that Musaeva cannot obstruct the investigation due to objective circumstances, namely, her poor health condition and her constant dependence on medication," Mr Savin has stated.

However, the Prosecutor's Office (PO) supported its position by the fact that Musaeva is under preventive registration as a person prone to attacking law enforcers.
