Authorities of Kazakhstan respond to Movlaev’s request for asylum
Mansur Movlaev, a native of Chechnya, has received the status of an asylum seeker in Kazakhstan. In his appeal to natives of Chechnya and residents of Kazakhstan, Mansur Movlaev asked for help and support to prevent his extradition to Russia.
Mansur Movlaev has received the status of an asylum seeker in Kazakhstan, the Kazakh “kursiv.kz” publication reports. “I saw with my own eyes the certificate of an asylum seeker in Kazakhstan. The official document in the name of Mansur Movlaev was issued on May 21. That is, the process of assigning Mansur Movlaev the refugee status began yesterday. This is great news,” reported Elena Zhigalyonok, an advocate of Mansur Movlaev.
On May 21, Murat Azham, another advocate representing the Mansur Movlaev’s interest, distributed his client’s appeal to the people of Chechnya, as well as the people of Kazakhstan.
“I ask for your full support so that I am not extradited to Chechnya. I understand that the Chechens who are in their homeland cannot openly support me, since they too may face problems because of that. Only those Chechen natives who live outside the CIS can publicly support me. I ask you not to remain silent and do everything possible to help me,” Mansur Movlaev claimed in his appeal, the handwritten text of which was published on his advocate’s page in Instagram*.
Mansur Movlaev also addressed the residents of Kazakhstan. “In difficult days for my people, you did not stand aside, but extended a helping hand and saved my Chechen people from death in 1944. We remember that and are grateful to you. Today, so many years later, I, as a descendant of the very people that you saved then, have to ask you for help and support from you! In 1944, you saved my people from death, and today, you can help save my life,” Mansur Movlaev emphasized.
