Russian scientists evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan

Fourteen Russian scientists who stayed in Iran with a purpose of attending a conference crossed the border into Azerbaijan.

Fourteen Russian scientists who took part in the BRICS conference in Tehran were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan, the RIA “Novosti” news agency reported on June 15 with reference to the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The Russian delegation included Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS), and Yevdokia Dobreva, Junior Researcher at the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations at the Russian Academy of Sciences (known as IMEMO), the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education reported.

Elina Sidorenko, a member of the Human Rights Council and General Director of the “Bely Internet” (White Internet) autonomous non-commercial organization, reports that as of June 15, about 200 Russian citizens were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan. “We waited a very long time for the Iranian border to open, which took about four hours. After that, we crossed the border on foot, and comfortable buses were already waiting for us in Azerbaijan,” stated Elina Sidorenko as quoted by the RIA “Novosti” news agency.
