Russian scientists evacuated from Tehran to Baku brought to Moscow

The Russian scientists who were forced to leave Iran due to the worsening situation in the country have arrived in the Russian capital from Azerbaijan. Authorities have decided to completely evacuate Russian citizens from Iran and Israel.

Twelve Russian scientists who were forced to leave Tehran due to the worsening situation have arrived in Moscow from Baku, the Gorchakov Fund has informed.

Some of the Russians who were in Iran were evacuated from the country via Azerbaijan, which allowed them to reach safe places, Dmitry Peskov, the Russian President’s press secretary, has explained.

"So far, I am not aware of any decisions on complete evacuation [of Russian citizens from Iran and Israel]," Mr Peskov has noted, adding that some Russian citizens have already been evacuated from Iran via Azerbaijan, the TASS News Agency reports.

On June 14-15, at least 313 Russian citizens were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan, the Russian Embassy in Tehran has reported. Thus, on June 14, 88 people were evacuated, including Fyodor Bondarchuk's film crew; and on June 15 – other 225 people, including children. They include family members of employees of Russian foreign institutions, artists of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and other citizens of the Russian Federation.

The personnel of the Astara checkpoint are working in an enhanced mode. In the evening on June 16, groups of citizens of Russia, Tajikistan and Vietnam were evacuated, the APA Azeri News Agency has reported today.
