Makhachkala City Mayoralty considers moving women’s beach to another place

In Makhachkala, a women’s beach may be moved to the area of the Spiritual Centre between Kaspiysk and Makhachkala. Beach female visitors complain that observers are preventing Muslim women from relaxing.

The “Ostrovok” (Islet) beach for women and children, fenced in with a high fence, was opened in the Makhachkala village of Reduktorny on June 1, 2012. The director of the beach explained then that the entrance to the beach was guarded by men, but on the beach itself, the service personnel were entirely women. The opening of the women’s beach was supposed to solve the problem of women who practice Islam and who want to relax by the sea, one of the first female visitors to the beach noted then.

The issue of moving the women’s beach is currently being considered by the Makhachkala City Mayoralty. This need arose after numerous complaints from local female residents. They are unhappy that outside observers are preventing them from relaxing on the currently operating beach in the Reduktorny village. Buildings have been constructed not far from the recreation area, from where a view of the women’s beach opens up, the “Sapa Kavkaz” portal reports today.

“The issue of moving the women’s beach to the Spiritual Centre area, between Kaspiysk and Makhachkala, is currently being resolved. There is a very attractive place there, where our women can relax in peace,” the “Sapa Kavkaz” portal quotes an official from the Makhachkala City Mayoralty as noting.

A video is attached to the message, in which a young woman complains about the lack of a women’s beach in Makhachkala. “I really want to go to a beach, I want to relax. However, I don’t want to go to a public beach, as if I swim in a burkini there, it will tighten around me, and people will stare at me. There is no longer a women’s beach, as we have nowhere to go. I don’t have a husband who can take me somewhere far away from prying eyes. I can’t go anywhere at all and I can’t relax anywhere,” the young woman states in the video.

The Makhachkala City Mayoralty’s Telegram channel does not contain any information about plans to move the women’s beach to another place.
