Archbishop Galstanyan detained within putsch case in Armenia
Law enforcers have conducted searches at homes of activists of the "Sacred Struggle" Movement and members of the "Dashnaktsutyun" Party. Bagrat Galstanyan, the leader of the above movement, was detained in connection with the preparation of terror acts and seizure of power in Armenia.
"The members of the criminal grouping had planned to commit terrorist acts. In particular, they were going to mine tunnels in Yerevan and other roads in the republic, and stage dozens of accidents on large, busy streets and avenues. It was also planned to paralyze traffic throughout the republic by damaging or setting fire to vehicles, as well as to commit explosions, shell walls of buildings and structures, and damage or destroy power supply and military communication cables," the outlet quotes the Armenian Investigating Committee as stating.
Besides, the suspects planned to use hacker attacks to disable electronic control systems and websites of state agencies in order to destabilize the work of government bodies, investigators believe.
The ARF (Armenian Revolutionary Federation, or Party) “Dashnaktsutyun” has reported today about searches in the homes of party leaders. "Searches are conducted in the apartments of Igor Sargsyan, a member of the ARF’s Supreme Body in Armenia, Vardan Avakyan, a member of the ARF’s Committee in Abovyan, Artashes Unanyan, a member of the ARF’s Committee in Razdan, and Varazdat Amiragyan, a member of the ARF’s Committee in Noyemberyan," the outlet has quotes the party statement.
The “Sacred Struggle” Movement has also stated that since early this morning, searches have been conducted of homes of the movement supporters. "Law enforcers are also searching the house of Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan," the outlet quotes the movement as stating.
Bagrat Galstanyan has left his house accompanied by officers of the National Security Service (NSS). Those who gathered near the Archbishop's house began chanting words of his support. The police have formed a human chain and did not allow anyone to approach the Archbishop, including the MP, Arthur Sargsyan. The Archbishop has called for calm, after which he got into a car and was taken away, the “News.am” outlet reports.
According to the “Bagramyan 26” Telegram channel, after a search of his apartment, Igor Sargsyan, a member of the Supreme Council of the ARF “Dashnaktsutyun”, was transferred to the Ajapnyak Branch of the Investigating Committee.
In 2024, Bagrat Galstanyan headed the protest movement "Tavush in Motherland’s Name", which is against the transfer of Armenian border territories to Azerbaijan and was nominated by opposition forces for the post of Prime Minister of Armenia.
