A resident of Kuban received a prison term in a case of treason

The Krasnodar Regional Court sentenced Sergei Maklakov to 13 years in a maximum security prison, finding him guilty of collaborating with Ukrainian special services.

Maklakov is a 51-year-old Russian citizen, the only charge in his case is high treason (Article 275 of the Russian Criminal Code).

According to the prosecution, Maklakov, wanting to counter the Russian military, established contact with a representative of the Ukrainian security service in the spring of 2023.

The verdict states that in January 2024, he received four Internet routers and eight SIM cards from "Ukrainian curators", brought them to Novorossiysk "and left them in a pre-determined garage for use by unidentified persons." In February of the same year, he collected information on the location of submarines and passed it on to a representative of the SBU, according to a message on the official Telegram channel of the regional prosecutor's office on July 2.

The court sentenced Maklakov to 13 years in a maximum security penal colony with a year of restricted freedom. The sentence has not yet entered into legal force; "Caucasian Knot" has not yet received any comments from Maklakov or his lawyer regarding plans to appeal.

"Caucasian Knot" also wrote that at the end of June, Novorossiysk resident Mikhail Komkov was convicted of treason. A military court in Rostov-on-Don sentenced him to 14 years in prison on charges of collecting information about local military units for Ukrainian special services.
