Authorities expand evacuation zone in Tyrnyauz

Due to the threat of a new mudflow, the authorities announced the evacuation of residents of another part of Tyrnyauz. Residents were asked to clear their yards of cars and proceed to temporary accommodation points.

As "Kavkazsky Uzel" wrote, in connection with the threat of a new mudflow, the authorities called on residents of the Tyrnyauz microdistrict of Gerkhozhan to evacuate, for whom three temporary accommodation points have been organized. As of the morning of August 1, 342 people were evacuated.

This evening, the Tyrnyauz administration announced the evacuation of residents of another part of the city - residents of multi-story buildings No. 36-40 on Elbrus Avenue, as well as residents of all houses in Molodezhny Lane.

“Due to changes in weather conditions and the risk of a mudflow, residents of these houses must immediately leave their living quarters and go to temporary accommodation centers,” says a message published on the official channel of the city administration.

Officials asked people to remove their cars from their yards and named the addresses of two temporary accommodation points opened on Elbrus Avenue and Eneeva Street for residents of the aforementioned houses. Additional temporary accommodation points have been set up in schools in Tyrnyauz, as well as in schools in the villages of Bylym and Kendelen in the Elbrus District.

After the mudflow on July 31, local damage to utility lines was recorded in the city, Interfax-Yug reports. The government of Kabardino-Balkaria reported this afternoon that specialists have already begun restoring gas pipelines, water pipes, and electricity, but while the threat of another mudflow remains, special equipment cannot begin clearing the city streets and the mudflow channel of the Gerkhozhan-Suu River. According to government estimates, the mudflow on July 31 “brought thousands of tons of rock,” so the channel was unable to hold back the entire volume of mud.

Women in late pregnancy and at risk of complications were evacuated from the Elbrus district to the Perinatal Center and Maternity Hospital of the Baksan Central District Hospital; a patient requiring dialysis was also hospitalized. Authorities are ready to evacuate other seriously ill patients to Nalchik if necessary.
