Protest rally in Ingushetia postponed from February 23 till May

The organizing committee of the protest rally in Ingushetia has held a sitting where a decision was made to postpone the date of the action from February 23 to some date in May.

The sitting was attended by 50 persons, representing almost all the settlements of the Republic. Maksharip Aushev informed the organizing committee about the latest contacts with representatives of the administration of the President of Russia, the Central Electoral Commission of the Russian Federation, political parties and the office of the Russian Ombudsman, who asked not to hold the rally during the presidential pre-election campaign and to postpone it till some later date.

By almost a unanimous decision of the organizing committee (with two members voting against), the meeting that was planned for February 23 was postponed till May 2008. It was decided to hold it after inauguration of the new President of Russia. A particular date of the rally will be defined at the next meeting of the organizing committee.

Mr Aushev has informed that during the negotiations, the officials of the above bodies had promised, that the March Russian presidential election and the elections of deputies of the National Assembly of Ingushetia will be attended by observers from the Russian Central Electoral Commission, administration of the President of Russia, Ombudsman's office and other federal bodies.
