In Kabardino-Balkaria, criminal case on torturing defendants was not opened

At the preliminary hearing at the Supreme Court of Kabardino-Balkaria on the case about the attack on Nalchik on October 13, 2005, the officials of the Investigatory Committee have refused to initiate a criminal case on the fact of using tortures against the defendants.

The "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reports that today the results were announced of the examination held by the Investigatory Committee of the Investigatory Department of the Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation for the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR) on the defendants' petition on application of torture against them. In this connection, they asked to ignore the evidences that had been obtained from them at initial interrogations.

On the results of the examination, the officials of the Investigatory Committee have stated a refusal to initiate a criminal case on the fact of application of physical force to the defendants. The court has upheld this decision.
