Lawyers start their hunger strike in Georgia
Starting from today, advocates have launched their hunger strike in Tbilisi near the office of the National Defender (Ombudsman) of Georgia in support of the hunger-striker Malkhaz Dzhangirashvili. Gela Nikoleishvili, one of the participants of the action, said that every 24 hours one lawyer will be on hunger strike, and they will replace each other.
"Lawyers have huge problems in court, but in this case we demand immediate fulfilment of Malkhaz Dzhangirashvili's demands, since he is hunger-striking for the 24th day, and the condition of his health has worsened quite a lot," Mr Nikoleishvili has stated.
"It will be a one-piece strike. Should it bring no effect, our hunger strikes will become permanent," Gela Nikoleishvili has added.
Lawyer Malkhaz Dzhangirashvili is keeping his hunger strike at the Ombudsman's office for the 24th day already, the "Gazeta.Ru" reports. He started his hunger strike together with the opposition on March 9 in front of the building of the Parliament. After the termination of the general hunger strike, he moved into the yard of the Ombudsman's office, and now continues his action alone there, the "Prime-News" notes. The lawyer demands to reconsider the court decisions on the cases of his clients, which were considered, as he thinks, non-objectively.
