Kukava: delay of Georgia's accession to MAP was expected

Kakha Kukava, one of the leaders of the Conservative Party of Georgia, has declared that the delay to award MAP (Membership Action Plan) to Georgia was not a surprise for their Party.

"After the policy pursued by Georgian authorities during the last month, the delay to award MAP to Georgia was no surprise for us. Unfortunately, the recommendations of ordinary summits to our authorities, clearly saying that Georgia should conduct democratic elections and a judicial were not heard, Mr Kukava said to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

According to Mr Kukava, the situation grew especially bad after events on November 7 and election on January 5.

"Unfortunately, today it's already the fact that Mikhail Saakashvili's government would not like to implement those recommendations, as necessary for Georgia to join NATO," the politician said. "The decision made in Bucharest is a great blow to foreign policy of Georgia. Therefore, the main priority for the newly elected Parliament should be the fulfilment of the obligations undertaken by the country within the IPAP (Individual Partnership Action Plan), under bilateral NATO-Georgia relations."

"As to the 'Russian factor', it's a complete invention of the Georgian Government, which has nothing to do with reality," Kakha Kukava has summed up his conversation with the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.
