Emergency situation to be introduced in North Ossetia due to hog plague

Emergency situation may be introduced in North Ossetia in connection with the incidence of African plague among swine, reports Vladimir Ivanov, head of North Ossetia Ministry of Emergency press-service.

According to statistical data, there are 115,000 swine at private steads, farms and pig raising complexes of North Ossetia.

"Due to the hog plague, emergency situation is to be introduced in the republic upon the recommendation of the president's representative. It only remains for the republic's government to sign the order ", he said.

It was reported earlier that the authorities of North Ossetia did not consider it necessary to introduce emergency situation in the republic, notes RIA "Novosti".

The RF South regional center of the Ministry of Emergency press-service informed the IA "Rosbalt-Yug" correspondent that on the previous day, on July 30, a meeting on the issue of prevention and liquidation of African swine plague in the southern regions was held in Rostov-on-Don. It was attended by representatives of management bodies of the South Federal, South Regional center of the Ministry of Emergency, territorial departments of Russian Agricultural Inspectorate, Russian MoI, Russian Federal Security Agency and RF Ministry of Defense.

For reference, 1,080 swine died from African plague and about 3,500 have been slaughtered during the recent 2 months on the territory of North Ossetia.
